Sometimes people ask me what to do if the floor drain installed in the past is not odor-proof, can I replace the floor drain myself, or should I lift off the floor tiles. In fact, you don't need it, it's not a hassle, and you can change it yourself if you can do it yourself.
1. Determine the shape and size
Floor drains are mostly square, but there are also some round styles. If your home is not decorated, it is recommended to choose a square floor drain, which is easier to construct.
If you are replacing the floor drain, buy the same shape and size as the original floor drain.
2. Pay attention to the depth of the sewer pipe
The mainstream floor drains have two cores: T-shaped floor drains and deep-water seal floor drains. The T-shaped floor drain is relatively short and the deep-water seal is relatively long. You can take a small stick and stick it into the sewer to test the depth.
Deep-water sealing floor drain: complete deodorization, uniform drainage, long life, suitable for toilets and showers;
T-type floor drain: When the water flow is concentrated, the inner core opens and the water is fast. On the contrary, the water flow is not concentrated, and the water is slow. It can deodorize, but it can't do 100%. It is suitable for concentrated water such as washing machine floor drains.
3. Steps for replacing the floor drain
Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to remove the cement from the joint between the floor drain and the tile, which can be used with a hammer. Tap the floor drain gently to separate the floor drain from the cement.
After the floor drain is taken out, plug the drain pipe with a plastic bag or cloth to prevent debris from falling, and then clean the cement around the floor drain.
After cleaning, put cement putty all around, and at the same time, put on the back of the new floor drain, then install the floor drain, and clean up the excess cement putty. (The adhesives used to install floor drains vary from place to place. There are white cement, caulking agents, and glass glues. Some of them will also be mixed with some glue or waterproof paint.)
